School Resource Officer (SRO)

Magnolia Independent School District was the first school district to contract a School Resource Officer on every campus within the district.

Duties of a SRO Deputy

Safety and Security

Ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, and school property. This includes monitoring the school premises, confirming all doors are locked, and responding to emergencies.

Enforcement

Enforcing laws and school policies. This can involve handling criminal incidents, managing student behavior, and mediating conflicts between students. Our SROs often use conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques to manage situations.

Collaboration

Working closely with school administrators, teachers, and other staff members to address safety concerns and create a safe learning environment.

Counseling

SROs often build positive relationships with students by being approachable and involved within their school. They offer advice, mentorship, and guidance on various issues.

Community Engagement

Building strong relationships with students, parents, and the community. This includes participating in school events, meeting with parents, and fostering positive interactions.

Reporting/Documentation

Keeping accurate records of incidents, interactions, and any actions taken. This documentation is crucial for maintaining safety and addressing any issues that arise.
